Today's the day! James Franco made his soap debut on "General Hospital" as Franco.
Franco appears to be, on the one hand, an elusive but promising photographer who will show his work at a Crimson magazine gallery event. On the other hand, he makes his first appearance on the show dressed like a homeless person, lurking in the shadows as mobster Sonny Corinthos and his right-hand man Jason Morgan walk into a mob trap that turns violent on Front Street in Port Charles.
Franco witnesses the entire shootout, which leaves Sonny victorious and his rivals down for the count. As Sonny and Jason drive away from the scene of the crime, Franco, with a hoodie hiding his face, waves at the limo, taunting Jason.
I realize some back story might help here. See, earlier this month, this whole thing went down where Sonny's wife Claudia went bonkers, because it finally came out (in a very public way) that she had ordered the hit on Sonny that put his son Michael into a year-long coma. Claudia took Sonny's pregnant ex-wife Carly hostage, and Carly went straight into labor. Into a storm they went, driving down some Port Charles back roads until they finally crashed.
Finding refuge in a cabin deep in the woods, Carly gave birth with Claudia's help. But Claudia didn't need two hostages, so she tried to steal the baby girl. Michael, Carly's oldest son, somehow found them in the nick of time, introducing a bat to Claudia's head, killing her. Everyone has been covering it up since. However, a photo of dead Claudia appeared without explanation at Jason's house, putting everyone's cover-up in jeopardy.
Anyway... Jason saw the homeless guy waving as they drove off, and he's paranoid about the witness.
Franco puts a nearly dead Joey Limbo -- the mobster working for Anthony Zacharra (Claudia's father, by the way), who tried to off Sonny -- out of his misery. Then, he rearranges the body in a perculiar way, flicks a coin on the ground and utters his first line: "keep the change."
Port Charles' finest is called to the scene of the crime, including Lucky Spencer (son of the infamous Luke of Luke and Laura) and commissioner Robert Scorpio. They figure out that Joey didn't die of gunshot wounds, but rather of a foot to the windpipe.
Franco gets home (which is the location of all the scenes that included Adam Lambert's "Mad World" from the past several weeks), talks to a mannequin and calls a mysterious sexy woman telling her he needs her. She comes over and helps shave his beard clean -- tada! -- we finally get a good look at Franco.
Of course, to make a public appearance after the shootout that is now all over the media, Sonny, Jason and crew all decide to go to the Crimson gallery opening.
And a newly clean-shaven Franco leaves the mysterious woman at his house, telling her, "They're expecting me."
This is going to be the best gallery opening EVER!

Nicolas Cage Got Into The Spirit For 'Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans'

FROM MTV.COM: Seventeen years ago, the legendary Harvey Keitel launched the second act of his movie career with a pair of tough-guy instant classics: Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" and Abel Ferrara's "Bad Lieutenant." A crack-pipe-smoking breath of fresh air, "Lieutenant" predated "The Shield" by a decade in telling the NC-17 story of a junkie, gambler, killer cop on a downward spiral.
During the past year, film buffs have been up in arms over director Werner Herzog's "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans." Starring Nicolas Cage as the type of at-wit's-end madman who puts a gun to an old lady's temple to get information, the flick co-stars Eva Mendes and Val Kilmer and packs one potent surprise: Although it has little to do with Keitel's movie, it is a deranged, worthy successor.
Recently, we caught up with Cage to discuss a return to his over-the-top roots — and the joys of winning over haters like myself.
Judd Apatow Says 'Pineapple Express 2' Likely, 'Superbad 2' Not So Much

Looking for a sequel to the hit summer comedy "Superbad"? Don’t expect to get one anytime soon. The genius producer behind the film, Judd Apatow, revealed as much when he sat down to talk shop with his fans on Funny or Die yesterday. While "Pineapple Express 2" looks like it may hit theaters at some point in the foreseeable future, "Superbad" won’t be getting a sequel.
(Editor's note: I would have embedded the video here, but Judd Apatow is a profane man and the words he uses are too much for members of our reading audience. I welcome you to track it down on the great ship Internets.)
“I can't get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to make the ‘Superbad’ sequel. I begged, but they don't want to ruin it. They think it's a gem of a movie and they don't want a crappy second," Judd said. He later stated, "There's a little talk about a 'Pineapple Express' sequel if that's your cup of tea... your bowl of smoke. You probably have a better shot of seeing that [than any 'Superbad 2' or any other Apatow sequel]."
Beg more, Judd! We want a sequel! Despite Rogen and Goldberg’s stubbornness on making one, I have to agree that “Superbad” was a crown jewel. Since sequels often turn out way worse than the original, maybe skipping it is best. But surely after a long, thought out process, a screenplay could materialize into something that would be worthwhile to see.
For a movie that made nearly $200 million at the box office and served as a launch pad for the careers of Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Emma Stone, there is surely money to be made. Just make it not suck. Simple.
Personally, I’ve been longing to see what happens to Seth (Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) next. They kind of left us hanging at the end of "Superbad" with questions to be answered about the boys and their love interests. They could Rogen and Goldberg could show us Seth and Evan moseying through their college lives with the infamous McLovin (Mintz-Plasse) tagging along. Upping the stage from high school to college is certainly an idea.
Apatow recently finished off “Get Him to the Greek,” a spin-off of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Russell Brand will reprise his role as Aldous Snow while Jonah Hill will be taking on a whole new character, playing a music label intern tasked with escorting Snow to his a LA show.
'New Moon' Director Chris Weitz Wants You To Keep Quiet About The Ending
FROM MTV.COM: Fans pretty much know what they are getting themselves into when they head to theaters to see "New Moon" this weekend. If they have read the book, they have a good idea of how this part of the "Twilight Saga" comes to an end.
Still, director Chris Weitz hopes fans appreciate the way he has decided to craft the "New Moon" finale for the big screen.
"The final scene is extraordinarily emotional, and it leads to a very potent climax," he told MTV News on the red carpet of the NYC screening of "New Moon." "And it's kind of a spoiler, which I hope people won't give away."

Oprah's Leap From Series To Network Should Inspire These Five Shows To Follow Her Lead

The Queen of Daytime Television is dethroning herself. On September 9, 2011, Oprah Winfrey will take her last bow as the host of the Oprah Winfrey Show, almost 25 years to the day since the program initially launched.
But Oprah's televised days are far from over, as the media mogul plans on launching the Oprah Winfrey Network — appropriately abbreviated as OWN — in early 2011. Once her show ends, she'll focus much of her energy on the brand new network.
Honestly, it's a pretty brilliant career move. In fact, it's one that several television franchises could probably follow with great success — or, at least, hilarious results. Following Oprah's move from television host to network overlord, I think these five franchises could take a similar leap from series to channel.
THE COPS NETWORK: There are few things in the world more entertaining than watching genuine footage of police officers chasing and shaking down runaway perps, drug dealers and traffic offenders. The one thing that might be more entertaining? Seeing it on the air all the frickin' time. Such would be the case on The Cops Network, which airs nothing but reruns and new installments of "Cops," with the occasional episode of "America's Most Wanted" thrown in for good measure.
THE LAW & ORDER NETWORK: Given all the various incarnations of "Law & Order," it's almost a crime that the franchise doesn't already have its own television network. The constant weekend marathons are proof enough that a network packed to the brim with Chris Meloni, Sam Waterston and the late great Jerry Orbach would have a strong audience. And by a strong audience, I mean myself. Truthfully, I just want more Ice-T on the airwaves.
THE SIMPSONS NETWORK: Can you imagine a television network where Sideshow Bob is beating himself up with rakes or Bleeding Gums Murphy is powerhousing his saxophone from the heavens at any given moment in the day? I can — and it's awesome. With no signs of slowing down, The Simpsons Network could even offer plenty of new installments to go with the reruns. Such a channel would truly be exxxxcellent.
THE STAR TREK NETWORK: Set your phasers to stunning every single day for the rest of your life with The Star Trek Network, a 24/7 smorgasbord of U.S.S. Enterprise-helmed action-adventure — except when we're talking about "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager," that is. Trekkers could tune into this channel to get their daily dose of Klingon language lessons, and the best part of all? No "Enterprise." Even the network chiefs know better than to air that horrid mess.
THE SURVIVOR NETWORK: A television network dedicated to endless outwitting, outplaying and outlasting? Yes, please! The Jeff Probst-hosted reality show has had its ups and downs over the years, but there's still nothing more satisfying than watching a total blindside at Tribal Council or an impressive victory at an Immunity Challenge. If that kind of strategic and physical maneuvering were on television at any given moment during the day, I would be one happy camper. Just imagine the possibilities presented by a live, 24/7 feed into the Survivors' miserable daily existence. It would be glorious.
'New Moon' Star Robert Pattinson To Be Joined By Uma Thurman In 'Bel Ami'

FROM MTV.COM: As soon as Robert Pattinson loses one high-profile leading lady, he gains another one for his upcoming film "Bel Ami." Of course, Nicole Kidman was never officially booked for the movie — an offer went out, but a deal was never solidified — but now everyone's favorite "Twilight" vampire is set to star opposite Uma Thurman in the picture, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Bel Ami" is an adaptation of 19th-century French writer Guy de Maupassant's short story of the same name. The plot follows Georges Duroy (Pattinson), a Parisian journalist and notorious ladies' man who overcomes a poverty-stricken childhood to become one of the city's foremost movers and shakers. Thurman is set to play the wife of Duroy's friend who eventually marries him after assisting in his personal and professional rise in French society.

Game Warns 50 Cent: 'Jay-Z Is Not To Be Toyed With'
The Game has thrown disses at both 50 Cent and Jay-Z, so who does the Compton rap fanatic think would win if Fif and Jay ever engaged in a war of words? In a recent interview with Complex.com, Game says he gives it to Jigga.
"Jay-Z will f--- 50 up in a battle!" Game predicted. "It would be so fast and over with. 50 is funny, but Jay is witty. Jay-Z is not to be toyed with. If he responds, if he feels like you're really pissing him off and he responds, he's gonna f--- you up! He would f--- me up, I'm just glad he didn't respond, so I didn't have to go dig in my bag and try to f--- him up.
"I definitely think that Jay-Z didn't come at me like he came at any other rappers because I definitely would have been more disrespectful," he continued. "Once you start a beef with me, you better be ready to go the whole 12 rounds. I will try to chew your f---in' ear off, like Mike Tyson. I'll do it and I think he knew that — I'm disrespectful! So Jay, he did the right thing and just kinda let it die down and I let it die down 'cause it wasn't anything, really. It was fun and I really admire Jay's career. I just really don't care too much for the man himself."
The onetime G-Unit member also said he's open to working with 50 Cent again — although 50 recently said he isn't — but he does think Fif is just following his footsteps by beefing with Young Hova.
"I already did that Jay-Z thing," Game said. "50's just doing what I'm doing. Nobody went at Jay; I went at Jay. Now everybody wants to get at Jay — not saying anything about Beanie Sigel, that's personal and I stay out of that. He's just a man and he's got all the right in the world, but I feel like I did something that people have been wanting to do, but everybody is scared because Jay-Z is so lyrically inclined to cut your throat and your career in half that nobody wanted to do it. But me? I just don't give a f--- sometimes."
Both Game and 50 Cent have been in the lab with Dr. Dre lately. The Doc was in New York on Thursday at Best Buy promoting his headphones. During a press conference, RapRadar.com asked him about his relationship with Game and 50 since they are on opposing sides.
"It's good, I'm working with both guys," Dre began to say before Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine attempted to move onto the next question. "Everything is good. Both guys are gonna be on my record. I'm trying to put it back to where it is supposed to be: all love."

'New Moon' Ending Surprises Fans Who Read The Book

"New Moon" director Chris Weitz seems pretty pleased with the way he ended the second movie in the "Twilight Saga." But the fans who have already gotten a chance to see the movie are still reeling from Weitz's directorial decision. Not to give too much away, but some said it wasn't the conclusion they'd expected.
"I was really surprised by the ending, the way they kept us hanging like that," Jordana de la Cruz from Rhode Island told MTV News, after seeing a midnight screening in New York. "I hated it, but I liked it at the same time."
Several fans who had read Stephenie Meyer's novels regarded the movie's ending, which involves Edward and Bella on the verge of something big, as the biggest surprise in the whole movie. "The book had more to the ending, and I liked where they left it here, like a cliff-hanger for the next one that's coming out," Twilight Mom Sandy Moffit from Illinois told us.
Jillian Rovrer from Daytona Beach, Florida, told us that though she was surprised by the ending, "it wasn't as exciting as other parts of the movie. It was to be expected."
Although the fans didn't want to give too much away when asked about it, they did reveal that fellow Twilighters are going to have the rug pulled out from under them. "I wouldn't. ... it's a spoiler, but the way it ended, what happened before the blackout, is the big deal," Habiba Tinubu said. "Everyone just screamed and was shocked that it ended."

'Kick-Ass'

He soon encounters a mysterious vigilante called Big-Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit Girl (Chloë Moretz), who are working to bring down the drug baron, Frank D'Amico.
U2 disappointed they 'didn't pull off the pop songs' on latest album
Courtesy of NME.com - Bono admits his band 'didn't pull off the pop songs'
U2 frontman Bono has admitted that he has been disappointed by the lack of success of their recent album "No Line On The Horizon."
The band's 12th studio LP shot straight to the top of the UK album chart when it was released in March and has sold a respectable one million worldwide.
However the LP, is the group's lowest selling in more than a decade, with 2004's "How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" selling 3.2 million copies to date and 2000's ''All That You Can't Leave Behind" clocking up sales of 4.3 million.
The album's first single from the album "Get On Your Boots" peaked at number 12 in the UK singles charts and follow-up "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" only reached number 32.
Bono admitted that he was disappointed that the band didn't "pull off the pop songs".
He told Spinnermusic.co.uk: "We weren't really in that mindset and we felt that the album was a kind of an almost extinct species, and we should approach it in totality and create a mood and a feeling, and a beginning, middle and an end.
"And I suppose we've made a work that is a bit challenging for people who have grown up on a diet of pop stars."
The band plan to release their already-recorded next album, 'Songs Of Ascent', in 2010.

Britney Spears "upset" over Australian tour complaints

CANBERRA (Reuters) – Britney Spears has done it again, hitting the headlines during her first Australian tour over a row about lip-synching and a lacklustre performance that her tour promoter said had left her "extremely upset."
Australian media reported that fans walked out of the first of Spears' 14 Australian performances that was staged in Perth on Friday after just a few songs, describing it as "boring," "stiff," mimed and lacking interaction with the audience.
But the promoter of Spears' Australian "Circus" tour, her manager and some fans rushed to her defense, saying this savaging has left the U.S. pop singer traumatized.
"Britney is aware of all this and she's extremely upset by it," Paul Dainty, Spears' tour promoter, told The Australian newspaper on Monday.
"She's a human being. I'm embarrassed, with such a big international entourage here with Britney, to be part of the Australian media when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting."
Dainty said it was a total fabrication to suggest that fans had stormed out of the show as early as the third song after paying between $200 to $1,500 to see the 27-year-old singer who has rebuilt her career after a high-profile meltdown.
Before her world tour started in March to promote her sixth studio album, Spears had only done a handful of live concerts in recent years as her personal life ran out of control.
This included stints in psychiatric care, an ugly divorce, losing custody of her two sons, shaving her head and partying without panties.
Spears has been at the center of debate over lip-synching since she arrived in Australia last week, even though it's no secret that she mimes as she dances in her circus-themed show.
The Fair Trade Minister for the state of New South Wales, Virginia Judge, ignited the debate by saying Australians would not tolerate a "Mickey Mouse" performance by Spears, who rose to fame as a member of Disney's "Mickey Mouse Club" TV series.
Judge suggested concert tickets should carry disclaimers about whether parts of concerts were pre-recorded and mimed.
Dainty said it was well known that part of Spears concert was lip-synched and blasted any inference that this was hidden.
"It's been all over the Internet for nine months," Dainty said. "This show is about an incredible spectacle, which it is."
Spears' manager Adam Leber took to Spears' Twitter account to defend the singer to her 3.7 million followers.
"Its unfortunate that one journalist in Perth didn't enjoy the show last night. Fortunately the other 18,272 fans in attendance did. - Adam" he wrote.
The management from the Burswood Dome in Perth, where Spears' show was staged, told local reporters that they had not received any complaints from the 17,000 people who were at the show. A similar number attended Spears' show the next night as well.
Thousands of fans flooded Spears' personal website and Twitter to congratulate her on her comeback, describing her Perth performances as "amazing," "awesome" and "brilliant."

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood gets "quickie" divorce

LONDON (Reuters) - Rolling Stone guitarist Ronnie Wood was divorced by his wife Jo on Wednesday on the grounds of his admitted adultery.
Former model Jo, 54, was granted a decree nisi by a judge at the High Court's Family Division in London, the Press Association reported, signaling the end of their 24-year marriage.
Neither Jo nor Wood, 62, attended the proceedings. The couple have two children.
Divorce documents made public did not name the person with whom the star committed adultery. Wood and his wife separated in 2008 after his widely reported relationship with a young Russian cocktail waitres
Swift wins 2nd straight BMI award for top song

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Taylor Swift started what could be an interesting week with her second straight song of the year award at the BMI Country Awards Tuesday, when Kris Kristofferson was honored as an icon.
Swift won for her song "Love Story" — the night before she contends for entertainer of the year at the Country Music Association Awards — Bobby Pinson won songwriter of the year and Sony/ATV Music was named publisher of the year.
BMI also honored Brooks & Dunn with the president's award.
"I just want to say to every songwriter and every loved one of a songwriter, thank you, because you are the reason I wanted to try Nashville," Swift said. "You are all my heroes."
It was Kristofferson, the 73-year-old songwriter of classics like "Sunday Mornin' Come Down" and "Me and Bobby McGee," though, and not the 19-year-old pop sensation Swift who had the audience's attention.
Willie Nelson, Patty Griffin and Vince Gill paid tribute to Kristofferson, who cried during Griffin's rendition of "Help Me Make it Through the Night."
"There's no better songwriter alive than Kris Kristofferson," Nelson said. "Everything he writes is a standard and we're all just going to have to live with that."
Kristofferson admitted to being overwhelmed by the attention.
"You want the honest truth?" Kristofferson asked with a wry smile. "I'm very honored, but I'm really uncomfortable with everybody saying something praiseworthy and I feel stupid. I told Willie this is going to be really hard on me. He said, 'That's why I'm going like it so much, because you're going to hate it.' But I'm awfully grateful that what I love to do means enough to other people that I'm able to do it."
Ray Stevens was among the first to take a chance on a Kristofferson song, recording "Sunday Mornin' Come Down" a year before Johnny Cash turned it into a hit.
"Nobody had ever put that much money and effort into recording one of my songs," Kristofferson said. "I remember the first time I heard it — he's a wonderful singer — I had to leave the publishing house and I just sat on the steps and wept because it was such a beautiful thing."
Stevens was drawn to the song because he felt Kristofferson had a "spark."
"He was very talented, very smart and right on time with his style," Stevens said. "A lot of people since then have copied those songs that he put out so at this point in time it doesn't seem all that different. It still is of course. There are very few writers who get that spark at the right time."
Pinson is one of Nashville's hottest songwriters with four songs among the most performed in the last year. He co-wrote No. 1 hits "All I Want to Do" and "Already Gone" with Sugarland and also worked with Toby Keith on "She Never Cried in Front of Me" and Josh Gracin on "We Weren't Crazy."
BMI, or Broadcast Music Inc., is a performing rights organization.

'The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty' Premieres December 13
Six-episode A&E reality show will depict impact of Michael Jackson's death on his brothers.
The A&E network reality show depicting the aftermath of Michael Jackson's death on his family, "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty," is slated to premiere on Sunday, December 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. According to an A&E spokesperson, the series will kick off a six-show run that night with two hour-long episodes.
The show will focus on the lives of brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon Jackson as they make preparations for a reunion tour that was reportedly to include a performance by Michael at a concert in Texas next summer. Shooting on the series cranked up again following Jackson's death in June, and episodes will also reportedly focus on the brothers' reactions to the shocking passing of the King of Pop.
There have been conflicting reports about whether Jackson's three young children — whom the singer vigorously tried to hide from cameras and paparazzi during his life — will appear on the program. An A&E spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment on whether the children will be included in the show.
In a 30-second preview of the show, tagged "You only think you know them," the brothers can be heard in voiceover discussing their comeback. "It's been 20 years since we were in the studio," one says. "How are we going to make this happen?" another replies.
"I never wanted to hurt y'all; I never wanted to be separated," a third pleads over stock footage of their modest upbringing in Gary, Indiana, as the phrase "The wait is over" flashes on the screen. "We've never forgotten where we come from," another says. "What do we got? Each other. Let's show them who we are."
The second half of the clip shows the brothers rehearsing dance steps to the strains of the group's hit "ABC," as one of them intones, "We're family; we'll be Jackson 5 until the day we die."

Taylor Swift's 'SNL' Gig Includes Jokes About Taylor Lautner, Kanye West

'Saturday Night Live' host and musical guest proves her comedic chops with 'Monologue Song' and a 'Twilight' spoof.
Taylor Swift didn't waste any time addressing her personal life — or that Kanye West VMA incident, for that matter — during her hosting stint on this week's "Saturday Night Live," tackling both in her opening monologue. With, appropriately enough, a song.
Strumming her guitar to a tune called "The Monologue Song (La La La)," Swift sang lines like, "You might think I'd bring up Joe, that guy who broke up with me on the phone/ Hey, Joe, I'm doing real well, tonight I'm hosting 'SNL' " (a reference, of course, to her former boyfriend, Joe Jonas). She also made light of the prevailing rumor that she's dating "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner with the verse, "If you're wondering if I might/ Be dating the werewolf from 'Twilight'/ I'm not gonna comment on that/ In my monologue," which she interrupted with a wink, then mouthed, "Hi, Taylor," to the camera.
As the crowd whistled their approval, Swift shifted the song into a jokey, mopey dirge, made a sad face, and sang, "You might be expecting me to say/ Something bad about Kanye/ And how he ran up on the stage/ But there's nothing more to say/ 'Cause everything's OK/ I've got security lining the stage."
Swift, who also gamely made fun of the VMA interruption in a promo for the episode, ended her monologue with another dig at West. "We've got a great show, " she laughed. "Kanye West is not here"
In later sketches, Swift showed off her acting chops, impersonating Kate Gosselin in a send-up of "The View," then donning a dark wig to spoof "Twilight" in the Digital Short "Firelight," which replaced vampires with Frankenstein monsters.
She also threw on a goatee and cornrows to play a wild-eyed convict in a "Scared Straight" skit, some pajamas in a turn as an over-affectionate roommate and, in the night's final sketch, a long blond wig for a jittery, hip-shaking impersonation of Shakira.
Pulling double duty as both host and musical performer, Swift also took the stage for a pair songs: a spirited version of "You Belong With Me" and a stripped-down "Untouchable."

Kris Allen's 'Live Like We're Dying' Video: His Time, His Show
Stylish new clip showcases the 'American Idol' winner's likability.
Not, you know, metaphorically or anything like that. It's basically the plot of his brand-new video for "Live Like We're Dying," the first single from his self-titled debut disc (due November 17). Time — here represented by a constantly diminishing digital clock located somewhere near an abandoned housing complex in the middle of the desert (no word if the Bluth Company put it there) — is eternally fleeting, and as such, we should live without fear or regret. Or, if you will, like we're dying.
And that just so happens to also be the plot of the song, a fantastic rock/pop hybrid originally written by Irish act the Script, then co-opted by Allen for his debut, somewhat understandably, since the song seems tailor-made for him. It plays to the strengths that carried him to the "American Idol" crown — his husky, broad voice, shuffly guitar playing and genuinely sweet disposition — and wraps them in a well-worn, subtly sexy tune, full of wide-eyed, dare we say inspirational sentiments. Yet, at the same time, it's also incredibly earnest in tone. Allen wants you to seize the bull by the horns, but he's not going to be pushy about it. He's a nice guy, after all.
But back to the video for a second here: It looks great (or certainly costly), full of artfully color-saturated frames and great expanses, recalling Snow Patrol's stylish "Run" clip and the Madonna/ Justin Timberlake vehicle "4 Minutes" (mostly in the clockological department). And, in a move that's commendable, it does away with the narrative crutch most "Idol" champs' debuts lean on (see, for example, David Cook's "Light On"), putting the focus squarely on Allen himself. This is his time. This is his show.
And while Allen's debut video isn't as flashy-dashy as "Idol" compatriot Adam Lambert's "Time for Miracles," it's just as good — mostly because, rather than rely on fiery explosions, "Dying" plays it straight, showcasing Allen and his talents. It's a bold move, indeed — Allen has never been known as "the flashy one" — but the folks at Jive Records are betting that his personality is all folks need to see.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that the song is Ebola catchy, either. Or that Allen is so incredibly likable that he seems to transcend fame, or at least seem unaffected by it. He's a good-looking, really nice kid. He can sing a bit. His video has a clock in it. It's not rocket science, after all — it's pop music.

Rihanna Details Chris Brown Assault In '20/20' Interview
'I said to myself, 'I'm never gonna date someone like my dad,' ' she says on '20/20.'
Rihanna was reflective and revealing throughout her "20/20" interview with Diane Sawyer on Friday night (November 6) as she spoke about her relationship with Chris Brown and explained that abuse was also a part of her upbringing, much like her former boyfriend's.
"I said to myself, 'I'm never gonna date someone like my dad,' " Rihanna told Sawyer. "Never."
The singer said her father was severely abusive to her mother in the past and hit her "numerous" times. She said she would unsuccessfully try to break up their fights, attempting to distract the pair by breaking glasses and dishes in the kitchen. The singer said her father even broke her mother's nose.
Rihanna painted the picture of her and Brown's early days together as filled with happiness. She said the "Forever" singer was her best friend but cautioned that falling in love with your best friend can be "scary."
"The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other, equally as dangerous," she said, describing their relationship as an obsession.
She said on the night Brown assaulted her, she was happy and alcohol did not play a part in influencing his or her behavior.
Rihanna confirmed that a text message from a girl Brown had a previous relationship with was at the root of their argument that night. She said Brown lied about the message and that she would not let him off the hook. "He had his back against the wall," she said.
The pair left a pre-Grammy party and soon found themselves arguing in a residential district in Brown's rented Lamborghini.
"It escalated into him being violent toward me, and it was ugly," she said, clearing her throat.
Rihanna confirmed to Sawyer information previously detailed in the police report. She said Brown punched her and bit her repeatedly. She said she was also choked, but not to the point of near unconsciousness, although she said she did have trouble breathing.
"All I kept thinking was, 'When is it going to stop?' " she told Sawyer of the escalating violence.
She admitted Brown threatened to kill her, as well, but she told Sawyer he "was saying it to scare me."
"At that point, I just didn't know what could happen," she continued. "He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. It was almost as if he had nothing to lose. He had so much to lose. But it was almost as if he had nothing to lose. It wasn't the same person that says I loved you. It definitely wasn't those eyes."
"It was ugly," she said. "I fended him off with my feet...but it was not like, it was not like a fight with each other. I just...I really just wanted it to stop," she said.
Finally, Rihanna said, her screams prompted a to call the police.
"I was bleeding, I was swollen in the face," she said. "So there was no way of me getting home, except for, my next option was to get out of the car and walk. Start walking in a gown, in a bloody face. So I really don't know what my plan was."
Rihanna briefly reunited with Brown in Miami approximately a month following the assault. She said she wanted to protect Brown, as fans were turning against him. But Rihanna was conflicted even as she attempted to reassure Brown.
"Everything about him annoyed me," she said.
He asked her if Rihanna hated him, she recalled. She said she didn't, but she actually resented him. According to her, this was the point where she realized she had to end their relationship.
Developmental psychologist Dr. Michelle Callahan told MTV News it's important for victims to get to the point where they must recognize it's time to leave.
"It's important for young women to know this is not a sign of love," she urged. "Violence, controlling behavior and abusive behavior is not love."
Rihanna's decision to return to Brown confused many once evidence of the assault became public.
"Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won't?" Rihanna said during the interview, calling her decision to reconcile with Brown "selfish." "Who's to say that they won't kill these girls? These are young girls, and I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call."
Sawyer asked Rihanna about the leaked image of her, battered and bruised, that appeared online after her assault. The singer said she doesn't like seeing the image because of the bad memories it conjures.
"I get angry all over again every time I see it," she said. "The whole thing plays out in my head, so I don't like to see it."
Brown has repeatedly emphasized that he still loves Rihanna and released a song after the incident called "Changed Man," in which he apologized to his ex.
Rihanna, however, claims to have never heard the record. She said she still has feelings for Brown and wants him to be successful, but she seems to be struggling to comprehend her emotions, calling it an annoyance to still feel connected to him. She told Sawyer she was unsure if she could ever reunite with him.
"I can't answer that question right now, 'cause you never know what the future holds," she explained. "He was my best friend, the person I loved. We spent two years of our lives together.
"I don't have a desire at all to be with him," she added. "I don't see how we could get back together. But I'm not God, so I can't predict the future."
She went on to add that there's nothing she wants to hear from Brown at the moment.
Brown issued a statement to MTV News prior to Rihanna's interview wishing her the best.
"I do appreciate her support and wish her the best," he said. "I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions."
Rihanna, likewise, wished Brown the best and hoped he could work through his personal issues.
"I want him to accept this as a man would," she said. "Accept the responsibility and find a way to not feel sorry for himself."
Both artists seem poised to move past the dark moment in their lives.
"I'm glad it happed to me," Rihanna said. " 'Cause now I can help young girls. [I would tell them] 'Don't react off of love.' F love. Come out of the situation and look at it third-person and for what it really is. And then make your decision. 'Cause love is so blind. It's so blind."

Chris Brown Opens Up About Rihanna Assault In MTV News Special
'I don't want to be that person,' he tells Sway during 'Chris Brown: The Interview.'
Chris Brown opened up about his assault on former girlfriend Rihanna during the MTV News special "Chris Brown: The Interview" on Friday (November 6), elaborating on his destructive behavior, explaining his previous apologies and describing his ongoing therapy sessions.
Brown told MTV News correspondent Sway that he has finally come to terms with the fact that he was capable of such violence.
"I think you'd be in denial and be totally naive not to," he said. "And not being able to realize and own up to the fact of your own wrongs. I mean, me, I've come to terms with it and I'm working on it. ... For that moment or whatever had me at that place, I want to erase that from what my character is. I want to be totally different from now on. I don't want to be that person."
Brown admitted that he's still unsure about how the public views him in the aftermath of the incident. His die-hard fans have continued to support him, but others have openly criticized the 20-year-old star. The mixed reaction has confused Brown, he said.
"I'm confused right now as far as the public perception [of me]," he said. "Like, I think with my fans, they still love me, they support me, definitely. You have those people who will support you. So it's kinda like 50/50 for me. I got the people that will come out and support and then the people that don't wanna see me do anything. They basically want me in jail."
Brown said he hasn't been able to brush off negative comments he gets in public. During a trip to an amusement park, Brown described hearing cries of "woman beater."
"I'm human, so when I hear certain things that they say or if I go somewhere and I hear somebody be rude about it, it's just like, 'Man, it's a mistake,' " Brown said. "I made a big mistake. I'm learning from it. Like, I'm not saying, 'Who are they to judge?' because, I mean, everybody's entitled to their own opinion on how they feel, but it hurts."
The singer opened up about his Twitter activity as well. He has twice tweeted fan videos that feature images of him with Rihanna. Brown said he wanted to show that their union wasn't "chaotic." "We actually were very close friends," he said of their relationship.
Brown is currently in the midst of his court-mandated therapy sessions. The singer said he enjoys the counseling and has been responding to the support.
"When I apologize, I really apologize, definitely, about the situation, like me and her personally, obviously," Brown explained. "We've exchanged, I've exchanged my apologies for her, but when I do it publicly, it's for who I've let down. It's for the fans, it's for all the people, even the sponsors. Even the people that have invested in me and thought that I was a good enough role model to be branded or to be like, 'OK, this is Chris Brown.' I really wanted to apologize for the people that I let down and show people that I am wrong for what I've done, but I want people to learn from it and see that I'm really apologetic."
Dr. Michelle Callahan, a developmental psychiatrist, said understanding the consequences of an action like Brown's is at the core of rehabilitating violent behavior.
"It's very important that they realize this," she told MTV News. "You can get into a lot of trouble. Not only can you seriously get hurt or hurt someone you love, you can get into a lot of trouble. You get involved in the legal system. You can go to jail. There's a lot at stake."
Brown echoed Callahan's comment in a statement he released to MTV News on Friday responding to Rihanna's interview with Diane Sawyer.
"I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well," Brown said. "Abuse of any kind is always wrong."

Jay-Z Performs 'Empire State Of Mind' At Yankees Parade
MC rode on a float with Alex Rodriguez earlier in parade
"Let's hear it for New York, New York, New York!" Jay-Z took hip-hop to the World Series earlier this month, and on Friday (November 6) he took it to the teams' World Series victory parade. Not only did Hov ride one of the floats with Yankee star Alex Rodriguez during the parade down the Canyon of Heroes, he closed out the ceremony at City Hall for the Bronx Bombers.
After giving out keys to the city to the entire Yankee organization — including team captain Derek Jeter — New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced a "special treat."
"His song has become one of the newest anthems of the Yankees," Bloomberg told the audience. "Please welcome a great Yankee fan and a great New Yorker: Jay-Z."
Of course, the anthem Bloomberg was referring to was "Empire State of Mind," which Jay and Alicia Keys performed at Yankee Stadium just before game 2 of the Series. (A new version of the song will appear on Keys' forthcoming LP, Element of Freedom.
The crowd stood on its feet as Jay — who performed the song at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin the night before — came out. Keys was not in attendance, so singer Bridget Kelly joined him, as she did in Berlin.
"I'm the new Sinatra, and since I made it here, I can make it anywhere/ Yeah, they love me everywhere," Jay, wearing a navy-blue Yankees jacket, rapped.
Superstar third baseman Alex Rodriguez danced hard to the song, throwing his hand up in the air. Meanwhile, Yankee outfielder Johnny Damon captured the moment with his flipcam while pitcher Andy Pettitte clapped.
"Came here for school, graduated to the high life/ Ball players, rap stars, addicted to the limelight," Jay continued. "MDMA got you feelin' like a champion/ The city never sleeps, better slip you an Ambien."
As Kelly sang the last notes of the record — "Big lights will inspire you/ Let's hear it for New York, New York, New York" — Yankees C.C. Sabathia, Jorge Posada, Joba Chamberlain and Nick Swisher came from the their seats to shower Jay with handshakes and hugs.

Dr. Michelle Callahan Speaks About Domestic Abuse In 'Chris Brown: The Interview'
'If this can happen to Chris Brown and Rihanna, then it can happen to anyone,' Callahan says.
One result of Chris Brown and Rihanna's experience this year, from the assault to the aftermath, is that it has helped to open up a dialogue among young people to discuss domestic abuse in teen relationships.
"It's important for anyone to know that if this can happen to Chris Brown and Rihanna, then it can happen to anyone," Dr. Michelle Callahan, a developmental psychologist, told MTV News in a discussion for "Chris Brown: The Interview." "Domestic violence happens in all neighborhoods, regardless of income, city or rural — it doesn't matter, this can happen to anyone at any time. So it's important for kids to also know: Don't be ashamed. Don't be embarrassed. If you're going through something like this or if you're doing it, if you're the victim or the abuser, feel free to confide in someone and let them know what you're going through. And lastly, never, ever, should there be violence in a dating relationship. It's always wrong."
In either case, Dr. Michelle advised that the most important thing for a young man or woman in an abusive situation is to get out immediately. She cautioned that many avoid ending relationships for fear of losing someone they care about, but she said leaving a violent loved one will be better in the end before things escalate.
"It's important for young women to know this is not a sign of love," she urged. "Violence, controlling behavior and abusive behavior is not love."
Callahan suggested that young men or women, abusers or the one being abused, should seek out a responsible, trustworthy adult should they find themselves in a threatening situation. She said a mature individual can better help lead young people to counseling. And more than anything, Dr. Michelle said teens should realize the consequences of abuse.
"It's very important that they realize this: You can get into a lot of trouble," Callahan explained. "Not only can you seriously get hurt or hurt someone you love, you can get into a lot of trouble. You get involved in the legal system. You can go to jail. There's a lot at stake.
"Violence is never an acceptable way to respond to things in a relationship," she added.

50 Cent Screens 'Before I Self Destruct' Film In New York
Comic moment occurs during screening when 50 cries onscreen.
NEW YORK — Thursday night was just a regular evening at the movies ... well, if you're used to seeing 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo at the theater! Fif held a screening of his film "Before I Self Destruct"; the movie shares a title with 50's new LP and they will be released together on November 16.
"I'm trying to be ahead of the curve because things are changing in music," 50 told the audience at the AMC Loews Kips Bay 15 theater in Manhattan on Thursday. Members of the audience included Red Café, Uncle Murda, radio personality Miss Info, DJ Jazzy Joyce and actor/MC AlBe Back.
For Fif, the "Before I Self Destruct" film "was an opportunity to show the cause and effect" of a good guy gone bad. Fif also said making a 90-minute film presented an opportunity to get more in-depth than a three-minute song.
50 stars as Clarence, a street-basketball superstar with enough promise to possibly make it to the NBA. When he injures his knee during a game, his hoop dreams are smashed and he's left to figure out what to do with the rest of his life. When Clarence and his genius pre-teen brother Chaka suffer the ultimate family tragedy, Clarence turns to the streets for salvation and money. He becomes a ruthless hitman for a local kingpin played by Clifton Powell. Lloyd Banks also has a role as Chaka's school teacher — yes, Banks appears in a dress shirt and tie, surprising the crowd with a character no one expected.
One hilarious moment during the screening came when 50 had to cry onscreen, and an audience member started to laugh. 50 himself yelled from his seat, "Shut up, n---a!" causing the entire crowd to laugh.
Also released with the album and film will be the documentary "2 Turntables and a Microphone," which explores the murder of Run-DMC DJ and 50 mentor Jam Master Jay. The trailer was shown at the screening on Thursday night as well.
"[Jam Master Jay's nephew] Phonz was working on that project for five years," 50 explained to MTV News a little over a year ago. "He came to me, and I shot my [interview] portion that's on the documentary. We met in Atlanta the first time and ended up shooting in Amsterdam.
"It's not a random act of violence," 50 also said about Jay's murder. "People just don't walk in your studio, shoot and kill you with several other people around, and no one knows anything. I believe the documentary sheds light on it — a little bit. It creates a clearer picture of what actually happened at that point. People just heard, 'Jam Master Jay got shot.' They don't understand the circumstances. [The film] creates some clarity."

'New Moon' Star Robert Pattinson Laughs Off Pregnancy Rumors
'Yeah, it's in my armpit because I'm hiding it from everyone,' he jokes.
BEVERLY HILLS, California — Rob and Kristen are engaged. They're going to name their first child a combination of their mothers' names, just like in the "Twilight" books. A big wedding is on the way, quite likely with Bigfoot officiating.
As their fame has grown, so has the insanity level of the rumors about their personal lives. On Friday (November 6), "New Moon" star Robert Pattinson sat down with MTV News, and was eager to address one of the more notable bits of news he saw the last time he Googled himself.
"I like the story about me being pregnant," laughed the 23-year-old British heartthrob. "It was in some Australian magazine, on the front page!"
As they've filmed "New Moon" and "Eclipse," Rob and Kristen Stewart have spent the last 12 months going from "the kid in the Harry Potter movies" and "the girl from 'Panic Room' " to the type of people whose every move is meticulously discussed, whether real or not. Luckily, Pattinson has the sort of self-deprecating British wit that allows him to laugh it all off.
"I was like, 'Wow, that's just [insane],' " he said of the pregnancy rumors. "And it's not even ironic.
"I don't even think the article [tried to justify it]; it was just a headline," Spunk Ransom marveled. "The article was just like, nothing."
On Friday afternoon, one day after the first public screenings of the eagerly anticipated "Twilight" sequel, the stars of the series invaded a hotel in Beverly Hills, accompanied by a small army of security guards. And, right away, RPattz had some big news he wanted to break while addressing those rumors that he is pregnant.
"I am, yes," he laughed, joking that he is now with child. "Yeah, it's in my armpit because I'm hiding it from everyone."
Stay tuned for tons of interviews with Rob, Taylor, Kristen and the rest of the gang in the days ahead. But as for the fun-loving Rob, he told us that he was just happy to extinguish what might be the craziest "Twilight" rumor of all time.
"Yeah," he grinned. "I guess that is the craziest."

Kristen Stewart 'Can't Tell A Difference' Between Herself And Bella Swan
'I'm used to playing really distinct characters that are so far away from my normal reality,' Stewart says.
With the end of principal photography on "Eclipse" in Vancouver late last month, Kristen Stewart completed her third "Twilight" series film as Bella Swan, the high school girl who falls hard for a vampire. Even before starting "Eclipse," though— at the very beginning of "New Moon," in fact, the second film in the franchise — the 19-year-old actress felt so comfortable playing the character that she had a hard time separating herself from Bella.
"I feel very much like I can't really tell a huge difference between myself and Bella anymore, as odd as that sounds," she admitted in an interview released by Summit Entertainment. "I'm used to playing really distinct characters that are so far away from my normal reality and in this case, the only thing that I was really worried about was just making sure it was absolutely honest and open and vulnerable and very present."
Following the 2008 original film — and the worldwide vampire craze that exploded as a result — Stewart had no problem falling back into step with her co-star Robert Pattinson on set. Much like Stewart, Pattinson had gone from a relatively low-key public profile to one of the biggest stars on the planet after his turn as vampire Edward Cullen. But once on set for "New Moon" — which hits theaters on November 20 — they easily found the same rhythm the duo maintained during "Twilight."
"We're both pretty instinctual, impulsive actors," Stewart explained. "We don't really hash things over and over because we both know our characters fairly well. It was easy to step back into the project because it was something we [already] did. Once you play someone — it's a strange thing — you don't forget who they are. And we work together well, so it was easy."

Fiddy's Fortress -- Back on Da Market

A German promotional company is calling bull-schnitzel on 50 Cent's agents -- claiming the William Morris Endeavor agency charged them $125,000 to negotiate for a concert that never happened.
Ze company, Major Movez, claims all they wanted to do was talk with Fiddy's peeps about ze possibility of booking ze rapper for a concert in Graz, Austria in ze summer of 2009.
But according to ze lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, WME claimed it would cost ze German's $125k for ze opportunity to negotiate -- with no promise of a deal -- and if the deal fell through, "WME would return the entire amount."
Ze Germans claim they ponied up -- but when ze deal eventually crumbled, they never got their $125,000 back.
Now they're taking WME to court, where they are demanding ze swift return of their Deutsche Marks.
50 Cent -- Puerto Rico Suave
New York City held its 52nd Annual Puerto Rican Day this weekend -- and by the looks of it, Fiddy has a special appreciation for the "Isle of Enchantment."
50 Cent's Mansion War -- Game Over

50 Cent finally buried the hatchet in the legal war over his 52-room Connecticut mansion -- and not one person had to get shot.
Moments ago, Fiddy reached settlement with the engineering firm he accused of misleading him about repairs and renovations on the ridiculously huge estate before he bought it from Mike Tyson.
Fiddy claims he never would have bought the crumbling mansion had the firm he hired to inspect it done a proper job. Repairs for the house were estimated by the company at $500,000 -- 50 Cent says he has shelled out millions.
So far, details on the settlement are being kept under wrarps
'I, 50 Cent, Swear to Tell the Truth ...'
50 Cent was his own best witness in court yesterday -- taking the stand in a case over a 52-room Connecticut mansion he bought from Mike Tyson.

Fitty -- who's worth a reported $150 mil -- is all pissed off because he claims he hired an inspection company to go through the place before he bought it -- and they told him it would only cost around $500,000 to fix up.
But the rapper claims he was misled -- and after he bought it, the real fix-up cost was around $3 mil.
The inspection company is stickin' by their story. The trial is still going on today...

50 Cent Is Divine

In what is sure to be the seventh sign of the apocalypse, former gangsta rapper 50 Cent hung out with a new shawty ... the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler.
50 Cent Bette Midler
She is the wind beneath his bullet-ridden wings.
Fitty Shot -- This Time It's Cute
50 Cent's been shot nine times -- but dude really reversed his image yesterday by working a crowd with adorable little kids and peaceful pooches.
But most emasculating of all: Being in a picture with Chace Crawford.

50 Cent Screws Rap Rival with Revenge Porn Tape
2Pac vs Biggie, it ain't -- but now the beef between 50 Cent and Rick Ross has reached a whole new level ... and it involves a homemade porn tape.

A source tells TMZ 50 Cent plans to release a porn tape featuring one of Rick Ross' baby mamas. We're told 50 bought the tape and will post it on his own site -- and even provide voice-over on it. This is 50!
The feud between the two rappers -- one popular, one not -- has included animated videos, radio station disses and a video where 50 Cent took another of Ross' baby mamas shopping for clothes.

Fitty Won't Have to Pony Up 50% to Babymama

50 Cent's baby mama won't be able to take half his loot, a judge just ruled in New York.
A Supreme Court judge just dismissed Shaniqua Tompkins' claim to half the rapper's assets, which she had estimated at $50 million. Tompkins is the mama of Fitty's 11-year-old son.
The judge said in her judgment the relationship was "an unfortunate tale of a love relationship gone sour." Both sides had filed memorable affidavits detailing their pillow talk -- she claimed 50 promised to take care of her "for life."
Didn't work for Babymama, but her lawyer says he could file an appeal.
Brett Kimmel, 50 Cent's attorney, tells TMZ, "Ms. Tompkins's claims pertaining to a $50 million verbal contract were entirely frivolous. In dismissing the case before trial, the court is sending a clear message. This is a complete and total victory for 50." 50 himself added, "I'm very thankful for this decision. I knew that once the facts were heard that justice would prevail. I hope now that we can put this behind us and move forward with our lives."
Fitty -- Go Ahead, Shoot Me!
He clenched his fists and threatened to go all Kanye on our ass -- but the only thing 50 Cent fired off at LAX yesterday was one of the most pleasant conversations ever.
Fitty -- My Pillow Talk Ain't Worth 50 Cents

If 50 Cent makes you a promise post-coitus, don't hold him to it.
TMZ has learned 50 Cent is firing back at baby mama Shaniqua Tompkins, who filed a $50 million breach of contract suit. In a response to her suit we've obtained, 50 says anything he said to her is "nothing more than pillow talk and romantic declarations of love."
50 even lays out in the simplest terms -- "If I ever intended to make that kind of commitment to [Tompkins], I would have married her."
Baby Mama's people -- your serve.
50 Cent: Get It Open or Die Tryin'

Add one more person to the unemployment line -- the guy who locked the keys to 50 Cent's Rolls in the car.
50 Cent
With their livelihood -- and probably lives! -- on the line, members of Fiddy's crack security team hastily used coat hangers to jimmy his ride's door open in London this morning.
Go shawty, it's yo last day.
